The two men vying to represent residents of the newly drawn 58th Senate District sit down for an in-depth discussion on issues facing the next Illinois General Assembly in this WSIU Election 2012 candidate interview program.
Incumbent Republican Senator David Luechtefeld of Okawville and Democratic challenger Michael Bigler of Anna give their views on Governor Pat Quinn's decision to close the Tamms Correctional Center and other local state facilities, dealing with the state's $83-billion unfunded pension liability, balancing the state budget, fracking, and the future of concealed carry legislation in Illinois.
Luechtefeld, a retired teacher and former basketball coach, has represented the southwest Illinois Senate district since 1995. Bigler, who works for the Illinois Department of Transportation, is currently a member of the Anna City Council and previously served on the Anna-Jonesboro High School Board.
Jak Tichenor of WSIU Public Television, Jennifer Fuller of WSIU Radio, and Caleb Hale of the Southern Illinoisan host the interview.
