The two candidates running in the 54th Illinois Senate District. Incumbent Republican Kyle McCarter of Lebanon and Democratic challenger Dan Stover of Centralia are interviewed by Jak Tichenor of WSIU Public Television, Jennifer Fuller of WSIU Radio, and Caleb Hale of the Southern Illinoisan.
The candidates will share their views on Governor Pat Quinn's decision to close the Murray Developmental Center at Centralia, Tamms Correctional Center, and other local state facilities, dealing with the state's $83-billion unfunded pension liability, balancing the state budget, fracking, and the future of concealed carry legislation in Illinois.
Senator McCarter, who has served in the Illinois Senate since February 2009, is a small business owner and former member of the St. Clair County Board and Lebanon Chamber of Commerce.
Stover is currently a member of the Marion County Board and former Centralia City Council member. He is retired from Kaskaskia Community College where he served as a professor and department chairman.
