Native American Heritage Month 2012

Celebrate the history and contributions of Native Americans to our country's diverse cultural landscape with these program specials airing in honor of Native American Heritage Month.

WSIU is also hosting a film screening and discussion one of the films, Racing the Rez, on Wednesday, November 28 at 6pm at the SIU Student Center, Ballroom A.

Free Film Screening -- Wednesday, Nov. 28 -- 6pm -- SIU Student Center Ballroom A

Join WSIU, the SIU Native American Student Organization, and the SIU Center for Inclusive Excellence for two free screenings at Southern Illinois University.  After the viewing, a discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Anthony Webster.

Racing the Rez offers a rare view into the surprising complexity and diversity of contemporary reservation life, from the point of view of five Navajo and Hopi teenage boys on the cusp of adulthood. The documentary follows Ryan, Dennis, Billy, Johnny, and Joyai from the classrooms to their remote, un-electrified homes, from grueling runs across canyons and mesas to their ultimate day of reckoning the state track meet and beyond.
