WSIU InFocus Segment Archives
Local historian Herb Russell takes WSIU producer Jak Tichenor on a walking tour of photographs used to illustrate his new book, The State of Southern Illinois, recently featured as an exhibit at SIU's University Museum. Russell describes the region between the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and the people who have called it home from prehistoric times to today. He also explores the many social, political, and historical forces that have played out in shaping a fiercely independent identity of the area south of present-day Highway 50.
