SIU President Randy Dunn took over as head of the Southern Illinois University system on May 1, 2014, following the retirement of former President Glenn Poshard.
In this program-length interview with WSIU's Jak Tichenor and Jennifer Fuller, Dunn discusses the challenges facing SIU as state resources, which continue to shrink and may drop as much as 20-percent if the Illinois General Assembly allows the current five percent income tax rate to fall to 3.75 percent in January 2015.
Dunn also addresses concerns that as many as 500 SIU faculty and staff system-wide may retire this year because of changes in the state's pension system. He also said he wants SIU Carbondale campus to increase recruiting efforts in the southern part of the state as part of an overall effort to reverse the campus' years-long enrollment decline.
