George: Fernando Treviņo became Chancellor of Southern Illinois University Carbondale earlier this month. A native of Eagle Pass, Texas, Treviņo served the past eight years as dean of the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. The 57-year old Treviņo replaces John Dunn, who had served as interim Chancellor since last November. Treviņo is a professor of health management and policy and had also served as director of the Texas Institute for Hispanic Health. Chanellor Treviņo discussed his first weeks on the job at Carbondale with Jak Tichenor in this program-length newsmaker interview.
