Carbondale IL – WSIU Public Radio, a public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), is pleased to announce the addition of three new programs to its regular schedule starting Saturday, September 11: This American Life, European Jazz, and Hear the World.
WSIU is excited to announce that This American Life will debut on Saturdays at 3pm and Sundays at 5pm. Produced by Chicago Public Radio and hosted by Ira Glass, This American Life documents contemporary American life through everyday experiences. Each program explores a particular theme through a mindful mix of radio monologues, mini-documentaries, “found tape,” short fiction, and unusual music.
European Jazz, airing Sundays at 1am and 9pm, is an exploration of European jazz, with performances from the continent's hottest clubs, concert halls, and festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival.
Hear the World, airing at 2am on Sundays, is a brand new world music series where you get a front row experience at exciting world music venues, featuring among others, DJ Dolores and Trio Mocoto from Brazil, Fanfare Ciocarlia from Romania, and Savina Yannatou from Greece.
In other changes, Speaking of Faith, which airs Sundays at 1pm, has been renamed Being. Hosted by Krista Tippett, the Peabody award-winning series features conversations with theologians, authors, musicians, scientists, economists, sociologists, and many other intellectual leaders about religion, spirituality, and the quest for meaning in life.
