Carbondale Ill. -- WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), is teaming up with media and public policy partners to present special programming to public broadcasting stations statewide during the fall election season, along with extensive coverage of the candidates and issues.

WSIU's Decision 2010 Election Series will include live debates between the leading candidates for Governor of Illinois and the U.S. Senate, as well as interviews with candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives. All broadcasts will originate from WSIU-TV's studios.

WSIU is producing the gubernatorial debate in partnership with the Southern Illinoisan, Illinois Public Media (WILL TV/AM/FM Champaign-Urbana), and the Institute for Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. WSIU, the Southern Illinoisan, the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at SIUC, and Illinois Public Media are partnering to produce the U.S. Senate debate, which is tentative at this time. Both debates will air live on WSIU-TV and WSIU Radio, and will be made available to public broadcasting stations statewide.

WSIU and its regional partners also will present interviews with candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and U.S. House of Representatives on Friday nights in October as part of the weekly WSIU-TV series WSIU InFocus. The half-hour, unscripted interviews will feature questions from Jak Tichenor of WSIU-TV, Jennifer Fuller of WSIU Radio, and Rob Crow of the Southern Illinoisan newspaper.
