Carbondale, Ill. - Everyone has a story tell, and WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), is inviting the general public to share their own stories at the WSIU “Share a Story” booth at the 4th Annual Cape Girardeau Storytelling Festival in the city's historic riverfront district.
WSIU's recording booth will be available Saturday, April 9 from 10am-3pm. Visitors should look for the station's canopy and colorful PBS KIDS Literacy Van near the tent on Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus.
Storytellers who spin their tales at WSIU's “Share a Story” booth will receive a CD copy of their recording as a keepsake, along with educational materials and other WSIU items. WSIU Radio will feature the recorded stories and a photo of each storyteller online at www.wsiu.org at a later date. To listen to stories recorded at the festival in previous years, select the Storytelling feature from the rotating spotlight on WSIU's website at wsiu.org.
The Storytelling Festival will run from Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10. Festivities begin on Friday, April 8 at 9am and end on Sunday, April 10 at 4pm. This year's master storytellers are Bil Lep, Willy Claflin, Elizabeth Ellis, Rev. Robert Jones, Kathleen Brinkmann, and Linda Dust. See the festival schedule at capestorytelling.com.
