Carbondale, IL – It's 2011 – and WSIU Public Television, a public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), is having a birthday. Later this year, on November 6, 2011, WSIU-TV will mark 50 years of service to the region.
WSIU will be celebrating this milestone throughout the year with 50th Anniversary messaging and events, beginning with a casual event this month that will take guests on a trip down memory lane.
The Friends of WSIU Advisory Board are inviting the general public to join them for “Captioning the Past: WSIU-TV at 50,” on Sunday, February 13 from 2-5pm. The event will be held in WSIU-TV Studio A, Room 1065 of the Communications Building, located at 1100 Lincoln Drive on the SIUC campus.
Over the years, WSIU-TV has accumulated many photos that depict the station's growth since first signing on the air. Since many people in the area have grown up with WSIU, the station is seeking the public's help in identifying people, events, and the year in old photos. WSIU will use the information shared to help properly archive the photos as part of the station's history.
Beverages and desserts will be served. Guests also will enjoy a wide variety of music from the past 50 years.
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Chester Hood by Friday, February 11 at (618) 453-6178 or email@example.com.
Plans for other WSIU 50th Anniversary events throughout the year, including a culminating event in November, will be shared as details are finalized.
