Carbondale, Ill. – Everyone has a story tell, and WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), is inviting the general public to tell their own stories at the WSIU “Share a Story” recording booth at the 3rd Annual Cape Girardeau Storytelling Festival.
WSIU's recording booth will be available on Saturday, April 10 from 10am until 3pm. Festival attendees should look for WSIU's booth and colorful PBS KIDS Literacy Van at the foot of the old Cape bridge, adjacent to the second Storytelling Festival tent near Southeast Missouri State University's River campus.
All visitors who share their stories will get a CD copy of their recording as a keepsake. WSIU will feature the recorded stories and a photo of each storyteller on their Web site at www.wsiu.org at a later date. To listen to stories recorded at the festival in previous years, select the Storytelling feature from the rotating spotlight on WSIU's Web site. WSIU also will distribute a variety of educational materials for people of all ages.
The Storytelling Festival will run from Friday, April 9 through Sunday, April 11. Festival hours are 9am to 9pm on April 9-10 and 9am to 3:30pm on April 11. Master storytellers spinning tales this year include Donald Davis, Syd Lieberman, Kevin Kling, Minton Sparks, Priscilla Howe, and Marilyn Kinsella.
