Carbondale IL -- WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), is pleased to announce a special edition of Reading Baseball airing on WSIU 91.9 FM/HD, WUSI 90.3 FM, and WVSI 88.9 FM this Sunday, September 26 at 3pm, with a repeat broadcast on Monday, September 27 at 6pm. The program will serve as a local compliment to The Tenth Inning, the concluding chapter of Ken Burns' landmark PBS series, Baseball. The Tenth Inning will air on WSIU-TV 8 and WUSI-TV 16 next Tuesday, September 28 and Wednesday, September 29 at 7pm, with repeats both nights at 9pm.

The special radio broadcast of Reading Baseball, hosted by Richard “Pete” Peterson, will feature past Reading Baseball pieces that relate to some of the topics Ken Burns will address in the TV documentary series, including the1994 baseball season and the cancelation of the World Series. Peterson also will explain how cheating and steroid scandals impacted the league over time.

In the TV series The Tenth Inning, producer Burns tells the tumultuous story of America's national pastime from the early 1990s to the present day. Part one of the series examines the prolonged baseball strike of 1994 and efforts to rebuild the sport, from new stadiums to new players from Latin America. The second part of the series turns the spotlight on a new generation of pitchers and international players who now dominate the game. It also examines the steroid scandals that have damaged the sport over the past decade.
