Carbondale, Ill - Looking for something fun - and free - to do with the family on the Columbus Day school holiday next Monday, October 12?
Bring the kids and join WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media outlet of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), and Sesame Workshop, for The Electric Company Circuit Tour, a live, nationally-touring stage show coming to Rent One Ballpark in Marion, Illinois on Monday from 1-3:30pm. The rain date location is Williamson County Pavilion, also in Marion.
General seats in the stands are still available. Registration is not required for stadium seating. Food will be available for purchase in the concessions area of the concourse.
Based on the PBS children's series The Electric Company, an updated version of the 1970s children's program of the same name, this free 90-minute multimedia literacy experience invites youngsters ages six through nine into a world where reading and learning are hip. The Electric Company airs on WSIU TV on weekdays at 4pm and Saturdays at 9am.
WSIU is excited to announce that beatbox artist Chris Sullivan, also known as "Shock" on The Electric Company TV series, will be performing live at this event. Shock works with Beatboxer Entertainment and has performed at venues such as Madison Square Garden with Doug E. Fresh, Rahzel, Biz Markie, and other nationally-known beatboxers. Shock also performs with the hip-hop comedy group Freestyle Love Supreme.
Approximately 475 pre-registered area children ages six through nine will be on the field at Rent One Ballpark to participate in hands-on activities during and after the show, and also will receive a variety of educational materials to take home.
Families in the stands are invited to join the fun by pumping up the volume throughout the show. Children of all ages are invited to participate in additional activities, such as coloring a giant Electric Company mural, and playing two games, including Transformer H Dash, an educational spelling game, and Silhouette Shout Out, which focuses on memory retention.
We look forward to seeing you at Rent One Ballpark in Marion for The Electric Company Circuit Tour Show!
