Carbondale, Ill. -- Six of the eight children who earned first place and honorable mentions in WSIU's 2010 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest this past spring will be featured reading their stories on WSIU Radio, a public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC).
The children's recordings will air on WSIU 91.9 FM, WUSI 90.3 FM, and WVSI 88.9 FM on Thursdays, September 2 through September 16, at 6:33am, 8:33am, and 5:29pm. The schedule is as follows:
September 2 - First grade winner Kelsey Jurich of Herrin, Illinois reading Animal Adventures and Second Grade honorable mention honoree Austin Reyling of Smithton, Illinois reading Sunday's Ball.
September 9 - Kindergarten winner Amanda Beuth of St. Jacob, Illinois reading The Elephant Runs Away and First Grade honorable mention honoree Josie Woodrome of Texico, Illinois reading Wacky and the Winter Olympics.
September 16 - Second grade winner Camryn Parker of McLeansboro, Illinois reading Monica the Monarch and Third Grade winner Macy Sanchez of Benton, Illinois reading Please Don't Laugh at My Family…I Love Them.
The recordings also will be featured on WSIU's Learning pages at wsiu.org/writerscontest after they air on WSIU Radio.
All eight winning stories in WSIU's local PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest also are on display at a public exhibit at the University Mall in Carbondale, Illinois through September 27. The exhibit is located in the lobby in front of JC Penney and is sponsored by My Favorite Toys in Carbondale. Included in the exhibit are the stories of the two students who were unable to record their stories for WSIU Radio: Elaina Montgomery of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, an honorable mention honoree in the kindergarten category for her story I Like, and third grade honorable mention honoree Shannon Price of Carbondale, Illinois for her story The Tree.
